Extensive research in the field of zirconia ceramics and CAD/CAM technology has led
to the development of zirconia restorations.
Zirconia exhibits very high strength and high fracture toughness. Enlarged zirconia copings
are machined from pre-sintered zirconia blocks to compensate for the sintering shrinkage.
The restorations are later sintered at a high temperature for several hours. Matching veneering ceramics are available to achieve an esthetic restoration for an anterior tooth.
For posterior teeth, monolithic restorations in which the color is imparted with an intrinsic dye are used
